If I were a doctor........

Somewhere in the past I had nurtured and abandoned the idea of becoming a doctor. But being closely related to several doctors, I have had the opportunity to have a look at their various traits. If I were a doctor, I would wish to have the following qualities.

Next to God, the most respected person on earth is a doctor. A doctor has his patient's life in his hands. To the patient the doctor's each gesture, each movement is full of meaning. Maintaining such a high office, too many qualities are expected of a doctor.

A doctor has first and foremost to be a humane person. He should be gentle and understanding.

Sacrifice is the by-word with the medical profession. Service and not monetary gains should be foremost in a doctor's mind.

A scientific mind should be the third essential requisite of a doctor. The analytic mind helps the doctor to arrive at the right conclusions.

A doctor should never lose his calm or composure at critical moments. This is especially so with a surgeon. The doctor should fill his patients with re-assurance. The patient's faith in the doctor goes half way in solving the problems.

A good doctor is a lover of beauty and of all nice things on earth. He radiates love to others around him. He is a paragon of all fine virtues and the celestial being who steals our hearts.
